The hotel, a brainchild of cultural enthusiast and Chairman of Uganda Tourism Board, Mr. James Tumusiime, boasts of one of the most luxurious hotels located in the Southwestern region. Igongo has to date become one of the most visited tourist destinations in Mbarara by locals and international visitors, with a key highlight being the Eriijukiro (the Museum of Southwestern Uganda) which is packed with historical information and artifacts from the Nkore, Kigezi and neighboring areas.
